
The Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) conference, jointly organized by the Taiwan Model United Nations Association, the student team from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), and the Taipei City Government, officially kicked off on March 10 at the Taipei International Convention Center. The event has attracted over 700 university students from nearly 50 countries worldwide, including prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Oxford University, Sciences Po Paris, and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Since its establishment in 1992, Harvard WorldMUN has toured 30 cities globally and earned the reputation as the “Olympics of Model United Nations.” Taiwan Model United Nations Association secured the bid for hosting last year, bringing Harvard WorldMUN back to Taiwan. The association stated that this conference is an opportunity for international academic exchange and a significant occasion for future global leaders to remember Taiwan.
Taipei as a Global Hub: Mayor Wan-an Chiang and NYCU Vice President Shun-Hwa Wei Lead Discussions on International Affairs and Youth Leadership
Mayor Wan-an Chiang of Taipei City and Vice President Shun-Hwa Wei of NYCU jointly served as the prominent representatives, delivering speeches in English to welcome representatives from around the world gathered in Taipei. Together, they engaged in discussions on crucial international affairs.

Mayor Chiang expresses his anticipation for Taipei to serve as a platform where outstanding talents converge for exchange, ignite innovation, forge friendships, and establish dialogue on crucial international issues. He also hopes that more leaders capable of shaping tomorrow will be nurtured through Model United Nations activities.
Vice President Wei underscored NYCU’s commitment to fostering critical thinking and academic excellence and cultivating students’ diplomacy skills. He emphasized the role of international conferences such as Harvard WorldMUN in preparing students to face future challenges and contribute to the betterment of the world. Despite the overwhelming complexity of the natural world, he noted that through education and global cooperation, we can collectively explore solutions and achieve a brighter future.

President Chih-Yuan Hou, representing the Harvard University Alumni Association in the Republic of China, warmly welcomed fellow Harvard alums from Boston, emphasizing unity and support for their alma mater. Executives including Zi-Wei Zhou, Executive Vice President of Fubon Life Insurance, Harry Xu, CEO of TSMC Education Foundation, Jun-Ru Mi, Director of Art and Cultural Affairs at Advantech Cultural and Educational Foundation, and a representative from EasyCard Corporation, also expressed encouragement and support for the conference, emphasizing the promotion of youth diplomacy.
Harvard WorldMUN Returns to Taiwan: Fostering Global Leadership and Cultural Exchange
From March 10th to March 14th, participants will engage in simulated diplomacy, debating crucial trends and sustainable development to cultivate critical thinking and leadership skills. The cultural evening events will include a “World Village” activity where delegations from various countries share their unique cuisines, along with a grand banquet at the National Theater and Concert Hall Plaza, showcasing Taiwan’s hospitality and joy to foreign guests.
Vice President Wei expressed that this conference holds profound significance in discussions about peace and progress. Every voice is crucial, and he looks forward to the conference making a positive contribution to creating a brighter future.
