Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), NYCU Breaks into Top 100 Global Universities in THE Impact Rankings

With active participation in the 10 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the outstanding performance makes NYCU into the top 100 global universities.

The Times Higher Education (THE) has released the latest 2023 World University Impact Rankings. NYCU has been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world due to its outstanding performance through its active participation in the 10 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The University even ranked first for SDG16 in Taiwan, marking because of collective efforts made by all students and faculties.

SDGs are a set of global consensuses proposed by the United Nations in 2015, aiming to solve the significant challenges faced by the current environment. There are 17 specific goals covering the three major social, economic, and environmental sustainability areas. NYCU has been actively offering relevant courses in various fields, meanwhile exploring innovative ways to solve the problem of sustainable development and promoting energy saving, carbon reduction, and net-zero emission measures on campus to minimize environmental damage.

In the latest THE World University Impact Ranking, National Yang Ming Chiao Tong University ranked 83rd out of 1,705 universities worldwide, advancing to within the top 100, a significant jump from last year’s “100-200” ranking. It is worth mentioning that NYCU is ranked 41st in the world in SDG16, “Peace, Justice, and a Sound System,” which is a first place among Taiwan’s tertiary institutions. In addition, SDG9, “Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure,” SDG3, “Health and Well-Being,” as well as SDG17, “Building Diverse Partnerships for a Sustainable Vision,” all ranked among the top five in Taiwan.

Vice President Chen-Yi Lee said that NYCU has always been committed to cultivating outstanding talents with a sense of social responsibility and sustainable self-innovation. The school has actively solved the world’s critical issues through a diversified model of cross-disciplinary cooperation in academic research, innovative entrepreneurship, and social service. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in sustainability-related programs through lectures, workshops, and community activities, enabling them to participate and contribute in a practical way. This improvement in the ranking demonstrates the growth of NYCU’s actual achievements and highlights our strong commitment to advancing our sustainability goals.
